prank ny times

the yes men supposedly did this fake ny times that was handed out today at the Union Square subway station, and I think the SDS kids were involved in the distribution. I'll get more details today, but here's the story on the Times City Room blog today.

first meeting with sds

i've finally got a contact in the local sds chapter, and i'm set to meet with him on the 12th to get some more info about their upcoming events where I could potentially film. i'm also going to work on sitting him down for an interview about what sds means to him, what made him get involved, and the burning question i always have in terms of activism, which is whether there must be clear ends to justify the means.

music

i'm composing some tracks on soundtrack to avoid clearance questions in scoring. piecing together all these disparate parts is interesting, and I think working on the score simultaneously with gathering all the video/audio assets will help the project's tone take shape

photos from election day

since it's a once in a lifetime opportunity, I shot a few photos of homemade signs and obama paraphernalia around brooklyn on election day. i'm hoping i can find a place for some of this stuff in parallel to the footage of protest/propoganda signs of the vietnam era. i'll post some soon...

a note on rights and clearances

i realize that many of the videos i am pulling from on youtube and other sources may include copyrighted information, and i will be pursuing licensing from these sources as I move forward.

i'm working on getting a youtube downloader installed to pull footage from the web from some of these interviews. most are current interviews with former weatherman bill ayers and other members of sds in the 60s. also footage of presidential candidate barack obama addressing his tenuous association with ayers during one of the debates.

the prelinger archive could serve as a major source of archival footage for this project. here is one video i'd like to download for use (an army video about the conflict in vietnam). i will need to download onto a hard drive from a computer with quicktime pro.

this is going to serve as a storehouse for information I'm collecting for my final documentary project, which deals with parallels between the political climate of the 1960s and today. this blog will be both a way to track my progress and a place to organize assets that may be of help.
